Bringing men and boys into the picture
Bringing men and boys into the picture
Governments, donors, international institutions and NGOs increase their promotion and funding of HIV prevention programmes working with men and boys so as to increase the overall effectiveness of the response to HIV and AIDS as a way of complementing initiatives that target women and girls.
Specifically, VSO calls for ‘Bringing men and boys into the picture’ through:
- Increasing the participation of men and boys in prevention work
- Challenging dominant concepts of masculinity that marginalize certain groups, promote risky sexual behavior and limit health–seeking behaviour
- Increasing access of all men and boys to sexual and reproductive health information and services, particularly vulnerable groups such as transgender, males who have sex with males (MSM), males in prison and intravenous drug users (IDUs
- Promoting and supporting Comprehensive Life skills and Sexuality education in schools
