Care for the carers (part of AIDS Agenda)
Care for the carers (part of AIDS Agenda)
Description
Objective: Governments, donors, international institutions and NGOs increase funding and support for a comprehensive range of care and support policies, programmes and indicators that directly reduce the disproportionate burden of HIV care on women and children
Specifically, VSO calls for ‘Care for the carers’ through:
- Realising the rights of community care-providers to recognition, psychological support, training, equipment, livelihood support, compensation and (in the case of child carers) education.
- Increasing the involvement of men in care-provision, whilst also promoting the involvement of women in leadership and decision-making roles in care provision.
- Improving the capacity of the state to provide care and support services, support community-based responses and ensure effective co-ordination of services nationally.
- Meaningfully involve people living with HIV as care-providers, patients and key stakeholders
